Let's Get Back on Track

First off, terribly sorry for the lack of updates recently. I made the transition from trainee to teacher successfully, but it's taken a lot out of me and I only recently got my internet connection set up.

So enough excuses! To make up for it, my next post will include pictures!

I'm going to post a couple of short tidbits from when I was still in training and then I'll post a current up-to-date musing in a bit.

But please, just know that I'm doing fine. I still have my sanity and all is well. Thank you again everyone for all your well wishes. I still miss everyone like crazy.

Without further ado.....

09/30/12

Typhoon! The weather here is truly amazing you never know what's going to happen next. It was very sunny this morning and most of the afternoon, but then around 3pm a giant rain cloud came swirling. It massive and moving incredibly fast. Not long after, rain started pouring and the winds picked up. We're about two hours in, and the rain and wind is sporadic, off and on every few minutes, but the sky and the clouds are still swirling rapidly. Very impressive.

It rained for the rest of the night, most scary was the sounds the wind made. Monster roars! But then in the morning…pfft! Not a cloud in the sky. Crazy.

Part of our training involves a group of actual students coming in and taking a sample lesson from each of us.
Just finished my lesson for the AEON students, and I feel really good! They were wonderful and so supportive. It was a really good experience. A few things threw me for a loop, I got a little caught off guard by their accents and I had some trouble understanding some of the things they were saying to me, but Mike-sensei (one of our trainers) said that it comes with experience. One day I'll understand the accent just as well as, say a British one. So that's really reassuring.

Tomorrow is our last lesson here at the training house! We have Saturday, Sunday and Monday off, then we leave Tuesday morning! Eek! We haven't really talked much about what we should do for our break, but I think our trainers will probably have some good suggestions.

Switching gears, I think I'm going a lot better mentally than I thought I would. There's still plenty of scary stuff to come, but so far, I think I've been managing really well. I'm not eating was well as I'd like. It's lots and lots of bread, chocolate and coffee at this point. But it think it's still all comfort food right now. I think once I can get set up in my apartment I can start planning meals better and stocking up my fridge. I'm still probably have lots of bread and chocolate, but hopefully I can start interspersing it with, oh I don't know, green stuff? Protein? We'll see.

I'M IN JAPAN. Sometimes I just need a moment to say these things out loud, because as silly as it sounds, sometimes I can forget. It's really easy to get overwhelmed think about the future though. Sometimes I think about my future at AEON, my first few lessons, my first prospective student interviews, all the time and energy this job will require can be really stressful and scary, but I just need to keep taking it one day at a time. That's really how I've been surviving. Little steps and little goals. Day by day.
